Last Saturday I shuttled myself and Mamma Shippey on a train to the Royal Society of Medicine in London for the Crohn’s & Colitis UK: Medicine and Me National Conference.
Attendees ranged from IBD sufferers, carers, doctors, nurses, and other professionals. Sessions included; causes and treatment, good care, emotional support and wellbeing, and finally the future. We heard from a wide range of speakers including doctors, expert patients, dieticians, and surgeons.
As the conference was aimed at everyone, the talks were ‘entry level’, an interested patient who keeps up-to-date would have a solid understanding of the material covered. Each talk was only about 10 minutes long, so the presentations felt a little rushed but were still entertaining.
Beforehand, I really wanted to go to some sort of conference, and now I really want to go to more. The one thing I would do differently next time would be to talk with people more. I think I could handle something with a more technical focus too. I just need to find out when and where they are!
